Arizona- Havasupai
83 images Created 12 Dec 2011
Havasu Canyon is the ancestral home of the Havasupai, the people of the blue-green water. Having inhabited the canyon and surrounding land for centuries before the arrival of Europeans on the continent, the Havasupai struggle to maintain their native culture and preserve their way of life. Fortunately, outsiders are welcome to visit this spectacularly beautiful canyon as guest of the tribe through an annual permit system. Though difficult to obtain, these permits are well worth the effort, as a visit to Havasupai is incredibly special and challenging to describe in words. Although photographs pale compared to seeing the place in person, I hope the images in this gallery, made over four separate visits during late autumn between 2012 and 2024, offer a small sense of this magical place.
